Adult & Baby Orangutan Adoption Program
Adult & baby orangutan rehabilitation programs are expensive to run and require dedicated personnel. Many orangutan rehabilitation centers are in dire need of additional funding for their operations. Therefore, in an effort to raise funds for the operation of their orangutan rehabilitation program, the Sarawak Forestry created an opportunity for the public to adopt their orangutans. Known as the Orangutan Adoption Program, it aims to raise funds for orangutan conservation and rehabilitation, extend ownership of the program to other citizens of the world and disseminate information on orangutan conservation efforts done in Sarawak. The funds collected through the program are used to support conservation work including projects on adult & baby orangutan conservation and educational programs to promote awareness on orangutan conservation, as well as the purchase of food and medication. The public can be part of this noble effort by adopting an orangutan, while corporate organizations can view this as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. Adopters will receive an exclusive adoption certificate and quarterly updates on the orangutans in Semenggoh and Matang Wildlife Centers via the Sarawak Forestry website. The adult & baby orangutan adoption packages are as follows: 1.Individual Adopter RM 200 per year • A quarterly update of orangutan news from Semenggoh and Matang Wildlife Centres via email or web. • An orangutan adoption certificate. 2.Corporate Adopter – Silver Adopter RM10,000 per year per adoption • adopt a specific adult or baby orangutan in the center • a profile of your adopted orangutan • quarterly updates on news of your adopted orangutan via email or website • an orangutan adoption certificate • an orangutan soft toy • media announcement of your adoption • co-branding opportunities in the wildlife center • an 8R framed photo of your adopted orangutan 3.Corporate Adopter – Gold Adopter RM20,000 per year per adoption • adopt a specific adult or baby orangutan in the center • a profile of your adopted orangutan • quarterly updates on news of your adopted orangutan via email or website. • an orangutan adoption certificate • an orangutan soft toy • media announcement of your adoption • co-branding opportunities in the wildlife center • a 10R framed photo of your adopted orangutan • complimentary participation in Heart 2 Heart with Orangutan program at wildlife centers in Matang and Semenggoh for 10 pax. Nothing can describe the feeling you get when you are up close with an adult & baby orangutan. With their huge eyes, vulnerable look, beautiful reddish hair, intelligent mind, human-like characteristics and inquisitive nature, what is there not to like? Humans and orangutans are amazingly similar; in fact, we share an approximately 97% of the same genetic makeup, which is why it is hard to imagine that there are people out there who are willing to kill them for profit -- orangutan mothers are intentionally killed before their babies are snatched away to be sold as pets. The Heart2Heart with Adult & Baby Orangutan and Adoption programs will definitely give its participants a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment. No matter how small or insignificant our contributions are for the rehabilitation and preservation of the orangutans, I'd like to believe that our tiny efforts will bring in big benefits in the larger scheme of things. I can’t imagine a world without orangutans, can you?(Tourism Malaysia)
