New routes, New destinations Firefly Airlines also announced its latest routes and new destinations; Subang to Kuantan, Subang to Alor Setar and Subang to Phuket. The first twice-daily flights from Subang are scheduled to start on 29 March 2009 to Kuantan and Alor Setar, and on 1 May 2009 to Phuket. Subang to Alor Setar route marks the airlines' second flight to the northern state of Kedah, the first being Langkawi. Firefly is now the only commercial airline that flies into Kuantan. "Once again we are pleased to further extend our services to the state of Kedah. Although this is not the first destination in Kedah that we fly to, this route serves a different need. We are pleased to note that there has been considerable demand for flights from Subang to Alor Setar. Our main objective is to provide alternative transportation into and out of Kedah that is economical, both in terms of time and money," said Leong. Leong further noted that the Subang – Alor Setar and Subang – Kuantan routes will see more business travelers and VFRs (Visiting Friends and Relatives) commute between the two states on a daily basis. Although Firefly Airlines is already flying to Phuket from Penang, Firefly is certain that flying out of Terminal 3, Subang will increase tourism into and out of Phuket as the island is no stranger to Malaysians.
