Kuala Lumpur Tops the List for Cheapest Holiday Destination

STA Travel UK confirmed that Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, tops the list for cheapest destination, based on the main ingredients for a good holiday - a pint of beer, a meal in a local restaurant, a night in a hostel, a bus ride and a sight-seeing bus tour around the city.

The top 8 cheap destinations are as follows (based on totalling the typical price for a pint of beer, a meal in a local restaurant, a night in a hostel, a bus ride and a sight-seeing tour):

1. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: £13.09
2. Hanoi, Vietnam: £18.29
3. Seoul, South Korea: £18.38
4. Mexico City, Mexico: £22.84
5. Beijing, China: £24.82
6. Istanbul,Turkey: £27.38
7. Bangkok, Thailand: £27.40
8. Cape Town, South Africa: £31.68

According to STA Travel, as the pound slumps against the Euro and most other major currencies and consumers counting their pennies more than ever, it's unfortunate that some of the popular holiday destinations are set to be even more expensive this summer. Hence, STA Travel has scoured the globe and quizzed travellers and travel consultants to find the best value for money destinations around the world, topping the list is Kuala Lumpur.

John Constable, Group Managing Director at STA Travel says -"With the Eurozone set to be one of the most expensive regions in which to holiday, Brits will need to look further afield to secure a bargain whilst away and make their pound go further. Asia has always been a good bet, and clearly still holds up. But it's interesting that South Africa makes the list - with the World Cup there this summer, it's another great reason for footy fans to take advantage of travelling to such a great destination, especially with the deals on offer."
