 Malaysia Airlines Managing Director & CEO Tengku Dato' Azmil Zahruddin said that the ‘Saya Nak Cuti – Jom Sabah!' package was developed with the support of Sabah Tourism, as yet another initiative of the national airline promoting domestic travel and tourism to Sabah."We are delighted with Sabah Tourism's support on this campaign. Sabah is a key destination for Malaysia Airlines which is demonstrated by a growth of 16% in passenger numbers for 2009, amidst the economic slowdown. "Over the last two years, we carried 1.6 million passengers for Peninsular Malaysia to the Sabah sectors which constitute about 25% of our domestic carriage," he said. "We have realigned our business there to better serve the community, promote business and tourism, providing better connectivity to Sabah with the introduction of direct services to Sandakan and Tawau last year. We now have twice daily direct flights to these two sectors," he said.Besides Tawau and Sandakan, Malaysia Airlines also serves Kota Kinabalu with subsidiary MASwings providing access to destinations like Lahat Datu. "With 8 new ATRs delivered to MASwings and 2 more by April, we will be equipped to meet future demand in air travel within Sabah and connect more customers worldwide to the state for business and tourism. "We look forward to working even more closely with Sabah Tourism to jointly promote tourism in and out of Sabah and beyond," he said.
