The Malaysia map shows the main cities, of which Kuala Lumpur is the capital.
Malaysia covers an area of about 329,758 square kilometers, and consists of two separate parts, Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. As the name suggests, East Malaysia is in the East on Borneo Island, whereas Peninsular Malaysia is located in the West on the peninsula shared with Thailand.
The southernmost tip of continental Asia is marked by Tanjung Piai, a cape positioned in the state of Johor, Malaysia. Placed between Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia, the Strait of Malacca as shown on the Malaysia map is considered the busiest shipping lane in the world.
As seen on the Malaysia map, the South China Sea separates the two distinct parts of Malaysia. However, both the parts have coastal plains which rise to heavily forested hills and mountains.
Thailand, Singapore, Straits of Malacca and Indonesian island of Sumatra share their borders with the Peninsular Malaysia on the north, south, west and east respectively. Peninsular Malaysia contains high concentrations of granite, rock formations and deposits of sand and mud formed by flowing water at various locations. In the East, Malaysia finds its highest point of elevation (4,095m) at Mt. Kinabalu. Located on the scenic island of Borneo, East Malaysia is shares its southern borders with Brunei and Indonesia. To its west and north, East Malaysia is bordered by the South China Sea and by the Sulu Sea on the northeast. As seen on the Malaysia map, the major area of Malaysia is within East Malaysia, with approximately 60% of the total area of Malaysia. More than 50% of the country's total area is covered by dense tropical forests, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
There are an abundance of travel opportunities provided by tropical Malaysia. Breathtaking adventurous holidays include pristine tropical rainforests, awesome caves, unspoiled islands and sandy beaches and majestic mountains combined with Malaysia's other geographical features make this an ideal destination.
Experience the excitement of hiking in the tropical rainforest, climbing Borneo's tallest mountain peak, exploring the world's largest caves or diving in the warm waters off the coast of Malaysia to explore the marine life. Adventure travelers will return repeatedly to explore what Malaysia has to offer.
For those who prefer something a little less extreme, there is bird watching, visiting ethnic villages and traditional "kampong", fishing, exploring the charming and distinctive towns and bazaars, Eastern and Orient train journeys, and historical city tours and sites all furnished with luxurious resorts to spoil their guests.
